New Directions is Reading Borough Council's learning and employment service.

New Directions employees over 200 members of staff delivering best value adult, family learning and employment opportunities meeting the needs and aspirations of the whole community of Reading.

Becoming a Tutor

If you would like to become one of our sessional tutors and join the Delivery Team, you can simply email simon.beake@reading.gov.uk for an application form.

Please note on the application form which type of course(s) you would be interested in delivering.

Your application form will be sent on to the relevant Delivery Lead, who will then inform you if there are current vacancies in that subject area.

Becoming a Volunteer

Can you spare two hours a week helping others to learn?
Our volunteer tutors work alongside our professional tutors giving extra help in English & Maths and ESOL classes. No previous experience is needed.

Free City & Guilds 9297 training is provided to all New Directions Volunteers.

Voluntary work offers you a great opportunity to help your local community, boost your confidence, develop new skills and can even improve your health!

It can benefit your job prospects. Committed voluntary work can be an impressive feature on your CV and might be the work experience that you need to accompany a vocational course.
