Becoming a Volunteer

Volunteers at New Directions Our volunteer tutors work alongside our professional tutors giving extra help in English & Maths and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes, usually once a week. We also need volunteers to support learners with additional needs in leisure classes such as IT, fashion, art and languages. No previous experience of working in education is needed.

Free compulsory training is provided to all New Directions Volunteers: the City & Guilds 7320 Level 2 Award in Preparing to Support Learning. A minimum commitment of one year after training is required to be accepted onto the scheme.

Voluntary work offers you a great opportunity to help your local community, boost your confidence, develop new skills and can even improve your health!

It can benefit your job prospects. Committed voluntary work can be an impressive feature on your CV and might be the work experience that you need to accompany a vocational course.

Information sessions are held on a monthly basis to explain the volunteer tutor scheme and the training.

Please call 0345 842 0012 to book your place at this information session. Initial teacher training for the Lifelong Learning Sector is also explained at these sessions and an Information, Advice and Guidance specialist is also available.
